Koombaya! It has been a while since we thought about the Boy Scout history project in the South Okanagan. And one year to the day that we cut the ribbons on the exhibits at the Penticton and Summerland Museums, along with unveiling that cool postage stamp that was courtesy the Penticton Stamp Club. It was nice having Mayor John Vassilaki and Member of Parliament Dan Albas do the honours with the scissors. And nice to see a group of adult and youth Scouters in attendance in Penticton.
I was saddened to hear of the passing this year of Peter Hatfield from Penticton. He was in the group of Scouts from 1st Penticton Troop who attended the first Canadian Jamboree in 1949. And Dr Brad Houston, longtime adult volunteer from Penticton, has “gone home”.
I will be in the Valley briefly this week, arriving late Wednesday and returning home Saturday. I have various documents and photos to add to some of the museum collections. And there are several of you who I have been waiting to meet for a very long time. While we enjoyed a covid shortened celebration of Scouting last year, the archiving project never ends. If any of you receiving this want to talk with me on Thursday or Friday, send me an email with your contact info. I will be in touch.
