What Spoiled It?
A few years ago in spring I was admiring the nectarine tree in our yard in Oliver, loaded with blossoms. It was so beautiful! There is a lot of beauty and fruitfulness in this world. The bees were buzzing around the tree, gaining nectar and giving pollination. What a wonderful balance! There are so many intricate, fine-tuned arrangements in nature: orbits of the planets; structure of the atom; cycles of life; processes in physics; laws of chemistry and many more. They are also marvelously complex. There is no such thing as a simple cell. The DNA of one fertilized human cell, which is the size of the period at the end of this sentence, is programmed with instructions that would take a 500 volume encyclopedia to explain how it becomes a baby. All of these things tell us of the great potential that is built into our universe. The possibility of computer technology, rockets, photography, communication systems and a myriad of other inventions have been there since creation waiting to be discovered. WOW!!
Then I went inside and encountered TV news coverage and the newspaper. The picture was spoiled with war, murder, crime, hatred, robberies, violence, etc.
What spoiled this amazing picture? Sin. We are morally out of synch with our Creator and a universe that is beautiful, balanced, complex and brimming with potential. God offers us a way to fit in. “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation.”
Let’s head for the sunny side.
