Honesty
The preacher was zealously emphasizing that stealing is very wrong, no matter how small the theft. Keeping what isn’t mine is thievery – no excuses. He declared that we need to be absolutely honest in all our dealings.
The next day he boarded a bus where he paid for the fare in paper currency. Back at his seat he discovered that the driver had given him 10 cents too much in change. He double checked his counting. It was indeed too much. He made his way back to the front and told the driver that he had received too much change and was returning the 10 cents. The driver told him he had done that on purpose because he was in the audience the day before where he heard the strong message on being honest. The driver declared that if this preacher practices what he teaches I’ll come back to hear him again. If he doesn’t, I’m through with Christianity.
The driver was back to the church service the following Sunday morning with the conviction that there must be something real about that kind of faith.
Honesty is the best policy.
