
2nd Update – high school hijinks? bird bangers?
“Several loud bangs, smoke and fire at the United Church. Police discovered several “bird bangers” which are believed to be the origin of the loud bangs. The nearby bushes had caught fire as a result of suspects tampering with the bird bangers. There has been several complaints of high school aged youth and transients acting suspicious in the area recently.
The matter is still under investigation.Update: Suspicious fire according to Fire Department spokesperson Rob Graham and RCMP looking into it.
1st Update – Graham stated, some “cedar type” bushes had caught fire a few feet from the church and crews were able to quickly douse the flames. No structural damage was reported with some curtains in the church’s windows having their fabric melt as a result of the heat from the flames.Graham said the RCMP are investigating the cause of the fire, and that luckily it did not spread to the nearby church or the neighbour’s garage.

What appeared to be a brush or hedge fire at rear of Church took to the building but local fire fighters knocked it down quickly.
No serious damage to the building but firefighters applied water to ensure the blaze did not spread.
