On August 11th, 2018 at approximately 12:15 am Oliver RCMP were conducting patrols within the town and observed Tyler Newton, who is well known to police and is on a curfew, riding a bicycle in the area of McKinney Road.
Members immediately arrested Newton and upon searching him located a weapon as well as drugs on his persons. Newton was also arrested for Breach and Mischief in relation to a separate Oliver investigation. Given Newton’s history and the new Breach charges police asked he be held in custody. Oliver members worked diligently throughout the night and into the morning hours preparing a court package and processing evidence while still responding to other calls for service.
Newton was successfully remanded by a Judicial Justice to remain in custody pending court and has been charged with the following offences:
Fail to comply with a condition of a Recognizance X2, Fail to comply with a condition of an Undertaking, Carrying a concealed Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Mischief and Prowl at Night (Trespassing).
A number of these charges were possible due to a member of the community being pro-active and bringing evidence forward that assisted police with obtaining charge approval. A job well done by all!
