Saturday was the annual Persied meteor shower and Open House at White Lake Radio Observatory, Due to the very dry weather and the high fire risk, before anyone was allowed into the observatory grounds, Argo Road Maintenance had large tankers spraying water on to the car park to avoid the possibility of fire.
When I arrived at the Radio Observatory, the sky was more or less clear but as darkness drew in, so did the clouds, our members with telescopes were showing off first Venus before it set then Jupiter with its moons and then Mars, the Red Planet but most of the sky was cloudy so didnt see any Persied meteors but a big crowd in attendance. While the members of the local astronomy group manned the telescopes, professional astronomers from the radio observatory gave various lectures on astronomy.
