The countdown is almost over: Oliver’s Sunshine Festival is ready to entertain this week!
Here’s the essential line-up:
Thursday, August 16th: Music and Market in the Park featuring the Steve Jones Band. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket but be ready to dance! Market starts at 5:30 pm, music runs 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the Oliver Community Park.
Friday, August 17th: Oliver’s first ever Rock and Roll Picnic, from 6:00 – 11:00 pm. Bands include ragtime blues band “The Burying Ground” and AC/CD cover band “High Voltage”. There will be a corn roast and some of the area’s best chefs will be competing in the Top Dog gourmet hotdog competition, so plan to come really hungry. Firehall Brewery beer and red and white wine sangria as well as non-alcoholic drinks and Hawaiian Shave Ice will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring the kids to this family-friendly event, as there will be tons of kids’ activities on site. Tickets are $20/adult, $10/student (11-18) in advance; kids are free. Tickets are available at the Oliver Visitor Centre and the Oliver Parks and Rec office this week. Tickets will increase to $25/adult, $15/student at the door.
Saturday, August 18th: Oliver’s Roots and Fruits Expo! The Oliver Parade starts at 10:30 am and runs up Main and down Station Street. Immediately following the parade, come on down to the Oliver Community Park for a full day of free, fantastic entertainment at the Oliver Roots and Fruits Expo. The Expo is a celebration of our little town’s agriculture and its history. Expect non-stop entertainment and music on two stages from 11:00 am until 10:00 pm with highlights including the Okanagan Mexican Folklore Dancers (12:30 pm), Oliver’s Got Talent Show (1:00pm), Just Us Too (2:00pm), Kristi Neumann (4:30 pm), Judy and the Diamonds (5:45 pm) and headliners Knacker’s Yard (7:00pm pm) and Toonmade (8:45pm). Activities and exhibits include mechanical bull riding, pie eating contests, pony rides, inflatable waterslide, bouncy castle, giant sand box, kids’ art stations, beer garden and so much more. You won’t want to miss the first ever Roots and Fruits Exhibition of locally made / grown produce, flowers, baking, art, wine, etc., along with the Roots and Fruits Art Show in the Community Hall. Come on, Oliver, show off what you can make and grow! Entries for the Exhibition will be accepted at the Community Hall from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, August 17th.
