An Oliver pioneer, Elaine was born in the South Okanagan to parents George and Phyllis Curbishley. Elaine’s family moved to Los Angeles and returned to Oliver in 1933. Following high school graduation, she studied at a Business College in Vancouver then worked in the office at Maclean and Fitzpatrick packing house in Oliver until her marriage to WW 2 veteran Eric Shannon in 1948.
Elaine and Eric raised 4 children on their orchard south of town. She continued to live there into her 90s.
A visit with Gramma was always very special for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elaine loved Oliver and was involved in the community.
Some of the organizations she volunteered with include Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Canadian Cancer Society and the Okanagan Historical Society. She served as a secretary for several of these groups.
Elaine was also active in her church.
Eric and Elaine enjoyed exploring BC and Washington State in their truck and camper as well as travelling internationally.
Elaine was a great friend and enjoyed many long-term friendships. Her bridge group played together for over 50 years.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband Eric, sister Beryl Watson and brother Norman Curbishley. She is survived by children Larry (Jan), Patti (Ken), Gordon (Kenna), Norman, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A graveside urn interment and committal will be held at 12:30 pm, Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Oliver Municipal Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday August 24, 2018 at St Edward’s Anglican Church, Oliver, BC.
