The Area 27 race track in Oliver will break ground this month on a permanent building at the property

An 11,000-square-foot multipurpose building is getting underway, to be built over the next 10 months and completed in 2019.

Area 27 Motorsports Park is located southeast of Oliver on Indian Band land. The 4.83 km Formula One track officially opened June 3, 2017.

“This one will be our first administrative building, we call it almost a clubhouse — it has a kitchen, a bar area, a lounge, the classroom for the driving school, locker room/change room,” assistant general manager Felicity Johnson said.

The building is the first of several coming to the facility, with a kart track being built alongside the administrative building.

The club has capped membership at 300.

Johnson noted that the speedway has a public spectator section that’s open to visitors hoping to catch some of the action on the track.
