Reception Centre in Oliver for those who received evacuation order Friday night / Saturday morning.
188 properties adjacent to Nk’Mip Creek are affected with residents ordered to leave their homes.
Osoyoos Indian Band’s Public Works Manager Tony Baptiste says a mud landslide has blocked the creek. Several smaller streams flow into Nk’Mip Creek at a higher level and work has been going on for some days to prevent dams from forming.
“It’s filling up behind it, and they are saying it now that it could let go, and send a lot of debris down the creek,” told Castanet reporters.
Evacuees are asked to report to the Legion Hall at Main Street and Veterans Way in downtown Oliver. Those without accommodation will be provided with the basics.
Residents of the ‘Cottages’ at the head of the lake north of Osoyoos also affected.
