A little over 100 people gathered at Gyro Beach in Osoyoos this evening in a show of support for the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and their families.
The event was part of a national “Jersey Day” across the country. The #JerseysforHumboldt initiative was started by a group of hockey parents in BC as a way to honour the Saskatchewan junior hockey team.
The team was on its way to a playoff game in Nipawin, Sask. last Friday when the bus in which they were riding was struck by a semi a remote highway intersection.
Sixteen people who were on the bus have died, including 12 players, the head coach, a play-by-play announcer and the team athletic therapist. Twelve people remain in hospital with injuries.
Canadians from coast to coast donned hockey jerseys on Thursday as an act of solidarity with the victims and survivors of the crash and with their families.
