Obituary for Lionel Vincent Conant
October 23, 1934 – March 30, 2018
On Friday, March 30, 2018, Mr. Lionel Vincent Conant of Oliver passed away at Moog & Friends Hospice House after a two year battle with cancer at the age of 83 years.
He was predeceased by his brother Bob Chretien; mother Etna Chretien and beloved grandmother Anne Lund.
Lionel will be forever missed by his loving family including cherished wife of 64 years Margaret Conant; children Ralph Conant (Diana), Louise Conant, Cindy Conant Donald (Verne), Lionel Conant (Rosemarie); nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Betty, Diane, Charity and Tony, many nieces and nephews, golf buddies; friends and cohorts.
Dad was a salesman and when he wasn’t selling a product such as sewing machines or cars he was selling his dynamic personality, which gained him many lifelong friends.
Dad and Mom enjoyed an early retirement which allowed them to travel extensively. Cruises which enabled them to dance were their favourite activity.
Dad was an avid curler in his younger days, excelling at the sport. He led his rink to many victories. Lionel also loved golf until his illness prevented him from continuing. Dad was proud of his “hole-in-one” at the Nk’Mip Golf Course.
Dad donated his time and considerable energy to many. He was instrumental in organizing both a new golf course club house and curling rink in Hinton, Alberta when he was president of those associations.
Dad started his life in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and lived in all three western provinces, following work or whims. He and Mom settled in Oliver in 2004 and grew to love it here. Dad will be remembered by many for his quick smile and jovial attitude. Wine time was 4:00 p.m. without fail!
Donations are gratefully accepted for Moog & Friends Hospice House.
A remembrance open house will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Wednesday April 4, 2018 at #45 Tradewinds Mobile Home Park, Oliver, BC.
