Carol Sheridan asked to comment on Tuesday evening meeting
“We had around 20 people out for the input session, and I was happy to see that just over half of those who attended were local youth.
After a short presentation about how skate park design has changed over the past decade including all the different styles of parks and ideas on how to incorporate art, sponsor recognition and landscaping, Jason from New Line Skate parks opened up a discussion to gather input on whether the concept design done back in 2014 still reflected the needs and wants of today’s park users.
There was some great input from the youth in attendance and sharing of specific modification ideas, and in the end it was determined that the park should still be a “street-style” design that could accommodate all ages, abilities and small wheels (skateboard, longboard, scooter, rollerblades, bikes) and that the design needed some updating to increase the range of difficulty and “flow” from feature to feature.
Next steps include the geotechnical report on the current site and a return trip to Oliver by New Line to present the updated park design for final input from the community and approval by the Society.
The target for the next presentation of the design is May 27th to coincide with an awareness event being planned at Lion’s Park.
The next fundraiser for the park is the Community Garage Sale being held at the Oliver Arena on Saturday May 19th.
