Hello World Neighbour Canada supporters.
Over the years, we have had visitors from our partners in Honduras and Nepal, but never from our newest partners in Burkina Faso.  This is about to change!
Charles Tankoano, Executive Director,  of  Association d’Appui a la Promotion du Developpement Durable des Communautes (APDC)  is coming to Oliver next week.
He will be speaking to groups at schools throughout the Okanagan and Kamloops, and will be here on Wednesday, March 14 to talk at 7 pm.  The location will be  the welcome area (upstairs) at Christ the King Catholic Church on 6044 Spartan Street.
Burkina Faso  is a landlocked country in West Africa, directly north of Ghana.  Formerly called Upper Volta, the  country lies in the savanna and Sahel zones – the wide band of semi-arid grasslands that separates the Sahara desert from  the forested areas to the south.
Subsistence farming is the main activity.  Our partner, APDC, works with villagers in small villages to improve farm land, to increase vegetable growing activity and animal husbandry, to train women to improve maternal health and infant nutrition, and to start savings and micro credit groups to enable small business development.  The WNC/APDC partnership started in 2008 and now has programs working in 18 small villages.
Judy and Peter Gray, WNC board members from Kamloops, have visited Burkina Faso and the project areas 3 times in the past few years and have some amazing photos of the area, the people and the work.  Between Judy’s pictures and Charles stories, it promises to be a fun and interesting evening.
