Cornie (Cornelius) Zacharias
(1937 – 2018)
Cornie Zacharias of Oliver, BC, passed away suddenly on Sunday February 11, 2018. He is survived by wife Eva, son Vaughn (Darlene), daughters Wendy (Dave) and Tammy (Rick), grandchildren Amy, Adam, Hannah, Zack, Gregory, Katharine, Olivia and Emma, brother Henry (Lorraine), and sisters Leona, Evelena, Norma and Sharon.
Cornie was born in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan on February 2, 1937 and married Eva in 1960. He established ELMMs Construction in Fort McMurray, also working as a building inspector for several years. When he closed his company, he went to work as a salesman at Alberta Motor Products (Fort McMurray), quickly becoming known as ‘Honest Cornie’. In a short time, he was moved up to Used Car Manager and remained in this position until retiring in 2001.
After retirement, Cornie and Eva lived in High River for 6 years before moving to Oliver in 2007.
In earlier years, Cornie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, Henry and friends. He also enjoyed participating in the local curling club and golfing wherever he was living.
After moving to Oliver, he loved gardening and working on the orchard at Edwards Family Farm (daughter, Wendy Edwards)
Cornie loved the Lord and enjoyed active involvement in his church.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Oliver Alliance Church on Sunday, February 18 at 3:00 p.m.
