Recent Osoyoos Secondary Graduate Jordan Schulting has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Hockey at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell for the 2019-20 season. Upon returning from a recruiting visit at the end of January, Schulting accepted a scholarship to play for the Riverhawks, which is about 30 minutes from Boston. UMass Lowell has a strong hockey program and it the last five years they have won the Hockey East championship three times and appeared in the frozen four in 2013. Jordan is very excited about being a Riverhawk and plans to major in Business.

Eighteen year old Schulting grew up in Osoyoos, and was a gym rat as he travelled with his dad to all the Osoyoos Secondary basketball and soccer tournaments. His love was always hockey and his childhood idol was former OSS student Chuck Kobasew, who always found time to meet and talk to Jordan. Schulting always admired Chuck’s drive, motivation, and will to be successful. Schulting wanted to follow in Chuck’s footsteps; in fact his childhood room was filled with autographed jerseys and hockey cards from Kobasew.

Schulting’s journey started at the Sun Bowl Arena at age 3 with two dedicated young ladies, Jillian Vieira and Sara Liebel, who took him out to public skating. Schulting began playing hockey with South\ Okanagan Minor Hockey at age 4 at the Sun Bowl arena. He played his second year of Bantam hockey on the Bantam Prep team at Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton. That team went on to win the Western Canadian Championship Tournament in St Albert. Schulting played his Midget hockey at Yale Hockey Academy in Abbotsford.

Schulting is an offensive defenceman playing in his second full season for the BCHL Coquitlam Express. He got a taste of the BCHL at age 16 with the Chilliwack Chiefs and was acquired by the Express early last season. Jordan would like to thank all his coaches, family, teachers and teammates that have helped achieve his goal.
