Summerland council has voted to reject the deeply controversial 424-unit seniors resort proposed for Banks Crescent.
The decision comes the day after a public hearing Monday at the Summerland arena that saw more than 80 speakers voice their mind on the project.
The development would have added around 1,000 new residents to the community and generated tax revenue equivalent to a 5.7 per cent property tax increase.
The many opponents of the project campaigned against the development mostly on traffic, its size, and the risks it would create for Shaughnessy Springs, the nearby trout hatchery’s water source.
Mayor Peter Waterman and Coun. Janet Peake were the dissenting votes in the 5 – 2 decision.
