Thomas Geza Szajko, a resident of a house on Tulameen Avenue in Oliver was surrounded by heavily armed RCMP officers April 19, 2017 and was the victim of a gunshot wound from an incident that evening.
Afshin Maleki Ighani is accused of shooting Szajko with a handgun and has since been charged with attempted murder.
RCMP swarmed the area around Szajko’s home, believing Ighani was holed up in a motorhome on the property. After discovering the trailer was empty, Ighani was the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant, ultimately captured in Princeton on the weekend following.
Ighani has a history of run-ins with the law, including two deportation orders, those currently going through the courts. Ighani is also accused of possessing cocaine according to court documents.
