Does God Care?
“Peace on earth, good will to men”. Does God really care what happens on planet earth? There is so much crime, abuse and suffering. With the psalmist we might well ask, “what is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that you care about him?” God does care, and it shows in at least 4 ways.
- He made it a priority to visit our planet. Our position on a priority list determines how much we believe the other person cares. Christmas is about God communicating with us in person.
- The ones who care will be honest about our condition. When Jesus came He harbored no delusion about what He would find, nor did He hide the diagnosis. “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Sin is real. It has to be dealt with.
- The price we are willing to pay says how much we care. What price was God prepared to pay for a cure? That will tell us how much He cared. “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” Jn.3:16. “Greater love has no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friend.” Jn. 15:13 He was willing to pay the ultimate price. God cared a lot.
- There is at least one more criteria for caring we must mention, choice. I can choose to accept or reject the treatment. The Bible clearly declares that “whosoever will may come”. God cares enough to give us the choice. After all He has provided He still allows us the opportunity to reject Him.
The promised Messiah of Christmas tells us that God cares a lot about each one of us. You matter to Him. We trust that you will experience the sunny side of God’s loving care this Christmas season.
