When something is done it is ready, complete. It can be used or it can be forgotten, left to the past. Ready or forgotten? Quite a difference here. It I am working on a project, maybe building a garden shed, there comes a time that it has the roof on it, the door, the window and floor, it is painted and set on the foundation. It is ready to put the rake and lawnmower into it. The shed is done
What is it about being done and being forgotten? If I am done with my anger that suggests I have forgotten it, no longer need it or nurture it, gone. Thus we have the phrase “done and gone”. Without gone it is not really done now is it? Another angle on this can be that the repair of the leak in the air mattress is done. I can sleep well and not be constantly checking it. Done and out of my mind
Continuing from being done we now find a new beginning, use of the garden shed. Possibilities show up, lots of them. Done can be a starting point rather than only a finishing point. Sometimes, I, and maybe others too, can try to keep the old item going while trying to move ahead with the new. Doesn’t usually work so well. This is where the phrase “let it go” applies. I need to let go of first base if I am to get to second
If you are done with me that could mean that my haircut is complete and I can go. It could also mean you are really fed up and don’t want to be around me anymore. A variant on done and gone or more like done and get out ah here. This kind of done is in the release category, maybe even chase away category. Feels kind of serious and maybe not something to be done lightly. Repercussions may last quite a while
Some things are really nice in the getting/being done timeframe, like when the bread-making is being done. The aroma is wonderful. One thing about this example is that it is impossible to undo bread. Once the ingredients are mixed, done. Well, done that part and it is already irreversible. Some things in life can be like that. Once I choose to ‘do’, on my way to ‘done’, there may not be options to make it un-done
