Touch
Touch is to have physical contact, gentle contact. Wait, it need not be physical. I have felt the touch of a speaker, a writer, a look. To touch is to make connection. In conversation, if you touch my arm it can feel like, “I love you, I am here, you are safe, I will help you”. That is a whole bunch of support in that one tiny moment. A touching scene in a movie or book can have a major emotional effect.
If I refer to someone as being touched I could mean that they are slightly insane. To be touched by an angel is to be blessed, by the devil, to be cursed, by another human, to be seen. To do a touch of cleaning is to do just a little bit. To add a touch of vodka, well, when no one is looking, can mean to add a ‘certain amount’ of vodka. To touch up a photo is to make it somehow better, probably using photo-shop or something like it
When people refer to ‘touch me in the morning’ they are talking about love making. A touchstone is a point of absolute truth, an anchor. To notice that you have a touch of class is to say you are somewhat refined, probably with good posture, moving with grace and you keep yourself clean and in good repair. If I add an extra touch of spice to a dinner dish that could mean chili pepper or rosemary. Personally, I like the surprise hit of touch of tarragon, especially with meat. Adding the professional gives extra quality to the finished product
To be touched by the Divine, what is that, I wonder. Is it that Divine reaches out and selects me for some message or encouragement? Or is it the other way, it is I that does the reaching out and Divine is always there? We hear of many examples of touching Divine, visions, euphoric rapture and more. So, where is Divine? I’m starting to think Divine is in me, quietly waiting for me to allow touching
