Locked Door
A compassionate doctor decided to help one of his patients by providing her with the rent for her apartment. She was battling poverty and fearful of eviction by the landlord. In her despair she had confided in the doctor who had asked her why she seemed so stressed out. With the rent money in his pocket he came to the door and knocked. No answer. He continued knocking several times because he heard some commotion inside the apartment. He tried to open the door but it was locked. Eventually he gave up and went back home.
A few days later he met the lady on the street and told her about his attempted visit. “Oh no,” she exclaimed, “I thought it was the landlord coming to collect the rent.”
Could it be that some who are reading this are like that lady? They have locked the door against a Savior who comes offering an amazing gift. Feeling that the Visitor is just coming to condemn or intrude upon the reader’s lifestyle, the door is locked.
Jesus said, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…”
