Still
To be still is to have no movement, to be the opposite of animated. It I am agitated, even though my body may appear not to be moving, my mind is moving, anxiously, furtively, without peace, then I am not still. To be truly still is to experience a quiet presence of the kind that the moment before the sun rises can bring. To be still is to be peaceful without concern or fear of any kind. Such stillness is rare
To refer to a still is to point out a picture that is static, not a movie. Some photographers specialize in making stills, pictures that are of things that do not move or make sound, like a fire hydrant. And, a picture referred to as a still, is usually of a peaceful scene without animals or moving machinery included. Just looking at a still is meant to calm and slow us and bring us closer to ourselves becoming still
A still is a device, a kind of boiler built to catch and cool the steam from what is being boiled. The word comes from ‘to distill’, to bring forth the essence, without impurities. A still is used to make alcohol and a moonshine still refers to making such alcohol under the light of the moon out in the forest so as not to be caught doing so. You can find many a still on google and buy them for your own use. Who knew?
When I say I’m still doing something it means I am not done with it, continuing with it. I could say I am still, though still working on getting a still of a still. Does that still your protests? I am surprised about how many angles this little and so common, I thought, word, has shown me. I’m still uncovering it. The one I like the best is the way one can still another, surprise them and get them to stop. A new use discovered
To be still is to be here, now, conscious and yet to still be observant about my world. I can be still and notice my thoughts, my physical surroundings, my body, my aspirations and emotions. All of that reality comes more vividly into my awareness when I become still. To be still is to simply notice and do so without judgment. Just be still. Many health benefits too as in stillness three is no stress, none at all
