Former council member and Mayor for three years, Pat Hampson, 75, has tossed his “hat” in the ring and will run in the bi-election for councilor member in December.
Nominations opens in mid October but Hampson says he wants to get a head start.
In several emails to ODN – Hampson said “I am prepared to work another 5 years if that should come about ….. I am looking at it this way, I want to be involved; I have the drive; I feel too young to sit back.”
“I am then going to touch on growth in Oliver, our lack of commitment to By-law enforcement and my belief that we are allowing the community to slowly deteriorate in order to save money or for fear of being seen as “heavy handed”.”
“My approach will be low key initially taking into consideration to the effort necessary to do the job properly at my age followed with a statement of my commitment to integrity, openness to ideas and willingness to hear every side of an issue before making a considered position.”
The bi-election called by the Town following the resignation of long term councilor, Jack Bennest.
