ONCE PROUD SCHOOL
SOHS/SOSS 1948-2011
It was in the still of the night, while our little town slept
The flames started licking; and up the walls they crept.
The alarm was quickly sounded and our firemen all flew.
Drove as fast as they could; but in their hearts they knew.
She would burn hot and burn fast, for she was made of wood.
It would take all of their strength; they had to do all they could.
They hooked up the hoses and started dousing the flames
But that fire was raging; they knew nothing would be the same.
From our beds we all came; we stood and wept without sound
As we watched our once mighty school burn to the ground.
No more will we eat in our cafeteria or sit in the old gym
Where many a noon basketball game began on a whim.
Our beautiful Venables Auditorium was the last to succumb
In stunned silence we watched it explode – we were just numb.
We couldn’t leave as our tired eyes took in the terrible sight.
And as the sun rose we clearly saw by the dawn’s early light.
Gone forever was our “Taj Mahal” as she was known by all!
We stood thinking back over every winter, spring and fall
When we put on concerts, basketball games and plays.
But on this very sad day, there was nothing left to say.
From our old school song we all sang and loved so dear:
Let’s sing it loud one more time; let’s stand up and cheer
♫ One, two, three, RAH RAH RAH
Who are we, RAH RAH RAH
WE’RE THE S. O. HIGH! ♫
In Loving Memory of
SOHS/SOSS
