All Evacuation Orders and Alerts remain in place due to the potential of increased windy and dry conditions. Winds are expected to increase later this week due to a low pressure system entering the Okanagan Valley.

In  the Meadow Valley area, north west of Summerland, BC, 55 properties and Darke Lake Provincial Park remain on mandatory Evacuation Order. In total 111 properties in the Faulder area, west of Summerland, remain on an advisory alert.

The number of properties on alert has been increased slightly from yesterday due to a new count of the homes; not due to a change of the alert area. In the northern section of Garnet Valley in Summerland 29 properties remain on an advisory Evacuation Alert administered through the District of Summerland.

Finlay Creek (K52024)

Due to the heavy smoke and terrain in the Finlay Creek area, it can be difficult to map from the air. An updated fire perimeter map has been produced and can be viewed below under the Map & Photo section.

This fire is burning in steep terrain, particularly in the northern flank of the fire.
Crews and heavy equipment continue working through the day today on building new guard around the fire’s perimeter and conducting hand-ignition operations to reinforce pre-existing guards. The fire remains active, particularly in the southern flank. There is an organized flame front, which is called “rank 3” fire behaviour.

When weather conditions permit, crews are conducting burn off operations to reinforce guards to prepare for forecasted increased fire activity over the coming days.

There has not been significant rainfall in the Finlay Creek area in over 12 weeks. Hot, dry conditions are expected to remain a challenge over the coming days. There is currently no rainfall in the forecast and winds continue to create unpredictable fire behaviour.
