Labour Day
They call it Labour Day and you all know the reason why
‘Cause workers were the backbone of this country; that’s no lie.
They came together one for all and with blood, sweat and tears
They put together this land of ours in just a matter of years.
We celebrate their strengths; their honesty, their love of life.
We owe a debt to the men whose lives were marked by strife..
Up at the crack of dawn, they washed in rivers and streams.
With their shovel and their picks they carved out their dreams.
We honour too the women who came from far away lands.
They toiled in the hot sun and winters of cold; their hands
Were always busy as they worked as hard as their man.
No matter if the work was too hard; they just said We Can!
They dreamed of a Canada that would be one in every way.
They struggled for little pay but kept up the pace each day.
They are our heroes, folks of old who built this land of ours
Those early Labourers of Canada who worked long hours.
So on this Labour Day we salute them with the finest jug of beer
And lift our voices one and all to celebrate them with good cheer!
So Happy Labour Day from all of us who live in this great land.
They earned the name of Pioneers. They were all mighty grand!
