Corinne Janow – Community Connections (Oliver)
South Okanagan Immigrant & Community Services (SOICS) is moving. The organisation has chosen a new space at Fairview Road that will better suit their day-to-day support in Oliver. The new space is equipped with four individual offices that allow for one-on-one and family meetings or small group training sessions.
“We are excited about our new space. It is conveniently located next to BC Services government office where most new immigrants visit upon arriving in a community”, comments Tahira Saeed, SOICS Program Manager. “We are also incredibly excited about our on-going partnerships. With support from the School District and the Regional Libraries our settlement workers have the opportunity to meet with clients in Osoyoos and Keremeos.”
SOICS new office will open Wednesday, September 6th, with classes commencing on September 11th 2017. During the months of July and August, one of our settlement workers will be assisting clients in Oliver Regional Library on Thursdays from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, in Osoyoos Regional Library on Tuesdays from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm and in Keremeos Regional Library on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
SOICS is a one-stop shop that provides a range of free services to all immigrants and refugees from all backgrounds. Our multi-lingual staffs works together with immigrants to help them get settled, find careers and learn all they need to know about starting their new lives in Canada. We appreciate the valuable contributions immigrants make to Canada while also understanding the challenges of settling in a new country. Our programs and services allow immigrants to realize the full potential of their learning abilities, which assists in their integration in local
communities. With two offices in Penticton and Oliver, we meet the clients’ direct needs through language training, childminding, skills development workshops, employment, and settlement services. Indirectly, we serve the broader
community by enhancing its capacity to increase the pace of social and economic integration in the South Okanagan-Similkameen region.
