On July 1, 1867 the governing authorities implemented a powerful decision that formed the dominion of Canada. In spite of huge ups and downs during the last 150 years, we are blessed to be living in that country. Every time I’ve been to another country I’ve looked forward to coming back to Canada. It is truly one of the best on the planet and the South Okanagan is the best of the best!! That privilege also calls for us to respond with gratefulness, integrity and wisdom! Unfortunately some politicians in some countries want to use benefits and wield power for personal aggrandizement or unwarranted control over others.
Thankfully there is a different kind of power at work in the world as well. It is the power of the gospel (Romans 1:16) that can transform people for better purposes than selfish ambition.
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes…
It is not a power that generates political impositions from the outside, but one that transforms people on the inside. The word ‘gospel’ means good news. The good news is that God loves each one of us enough to cause Jesus to shed His life blood for us as payment for our wrongs. In addition He then offers us guidance and ability to also change the way we live. Now that would a huge, powerful 150th celebration!
That kind of power will put us on the sunny side.
