Agenda material for open meeting Oliver Town Council – next Monday
That Council direct Staff to prepare an amended Fire Protection Agreement for the Osoyoos Indian Band which incorporates the rate change and includes a clause for a 5 year term.
The difference would be approximately$10,000 less that what we would receive currently. Thisdifference could be taken out of the Town only Fire Department Reserve
On May 24, 2017 the Town of Oliver and the Osoyoos Indian Band met to discuss the agreement that is currently in effect for fire protection. In the current agreement they are charged “Rural Rates” for their entire assessment, which meant historically that there mill rate that was charged to them was higher than the mill rate that the Town would assess of their rate payers.
The OIB would like to see some of their residences and businesses that have a close proximity to the Town get charged the same mill rate as what they would charge the taxpayers of theTown of Oliver. See map above
