School District No. 53 (Okanagan Similkameen) is pleased to announce the following appointments effective August 1, 2017:
Ms. Stacey Smith as Vice Principal at Southern Okanagan Secondary School
Ms. Smith is currently Deputy Head of Secondary at International School Dhaka, an International Baccalaureate (IB) school in Bangladesh. She has also worked as a physical education department head at Saigon South International School and as an alternate school and social studies teacher at Princess Margaret Secondary School in School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha). Previously she worked at Skaha Lake Middle School and at Penticton Secondary School in School District No. 67.
Ms. Amanda Palmer as Vice Principal at Oliver Elementary School
Ms. Palmer is currently teaching at Anahim Lake Elementary Junior Secondary School in Anahim Lake, BC. Prior to this she has been a teacher at Okanagan Falls Elementary School from 2010 to 2016, a teacher at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School from 2005 to 2010, a teacher at Oliver Elementary School, and various teaching assignments prior to this within School Districts No. 53 and No. 67.
Ms. Naryn Searcy as Vice Principal of Similkameen Elementary Secondary School
Ms. Searcy comes to us from School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) where she is currently lead teacher for the Aboriginal education team focussing on Indigenous Perspectives in the K-12 Curriculum. Ms. Searcy previously held the position of district helping teacher for Aboriginal Education, english teacher and First Peoples english teacher at Princess Margaret Secondary School. She also taught English 9-12, English Literature 12 and was the teacher-librarian at Princess Margaret Secondary School in Penticton.
Mr. Bradley Burns as Vice Principal of Osoyoos Elementary School
Mr. Burns is currently teaching grades 7 to 12 at Elk Island Catholic School District in Camrose, Alberta where he teaches junior high physical education, recreational leadership and personal fitness along with various other courses. He has also taught junior high social studies and language arts.
The Board of Education welcomes these individuals to our district and wishes them every success in their new roles.
