Oliver Community Garden – springing into Spring !


If you don’t have room for a garden at home, or just want to get involved and meet people in your community, check out the Oliver Community Gardens. This charming spot is located behind the big blue building on the Oliver Community Arts Council property , 5840 Airport Road in Oliver. We are looking to inject some new energy into the Gardens Society, and welcome volunteers for a variety of tasks. Your commitment to the gardens can be as little or as much as you wish.
● You can rent a raised garden bed with automatic irrigation – grow your own vegetables
● help with the general upkeep of the gardens
● Tend to the flower beds
● Participate in planting and/or maintaining beds for the Food Bank
● Harvest the Food Bank beds and deliver to the Food Bank once a week
● Volunteer with your pick-up truck or utility trailer to haul the contents of the “weed bin” to the landfill
● Put your handyman skills to use on occasion with repairs to raised beds etc
● Attend a couple of meetings to help with the planning, organization and general operations of the society
There are two upcoming events at the gardens , where members will be on hand to show you around
● Monday May 15 th is the Spring Clean-up at 6:30pm Bring a pair of gloves and join us pulling
weeds! Interested in renting a raised garden? Stop by and have a look while we are there
● Wednesday, May 31st, from 3 pm to 7 pm the whole town is invited to drop into the gardens, for our Oliver Community Garden Open House and Plant Swap!

Instead of a sale, this year we’re opening up the gardens for some community meet and greet in order to welcome springtime gardening, at last! Those with extra plants are encouraged to bring them to give away; those green thumbs with gardening tips can share them; those who simply want to have a look at this little gem of a community garden can just enjoy it.

By the way, we all know that ripe zucchinis can’t be shared just now. But, on May 31.st, there’s nothing preventing those with an abundance of rhubarb to exchange some for newly planted chives in little pots, is there?
