The name “collage” comes from “colle”, the word for glue in French. Making a collage consists of searching out, choosing, assembling and gluing down paper and other materials. I did my first collage at Oliver Sagebrushers in a work shop put on by Marion Trimble, (excellent local artist), in March 2015 and have felt inspired ever since. My collages have been created by tearing or cutting paper from calendars, magazines, thrift store books and other recycle materials and gluing them together into mostly landscapes on canvas. My materials include adhesive glue, paint brushes to apply the glue, scissors (both for fine detail and for general collecting and cut out), plus the final protective spray for the finished image. So far I’ve added some hemp rope and wool, sifted local sand, tissue paper and rarely, fabric to create more depth and texture and someday I want to move to a greater three dimensional effect.
Katherine MacNeill, Artist
I have been an art quilter for many years. I moved to Oliver in 2014 and began to work with water color and mixed media in addition to fabric. I love the light and space in my new home and enjoy the support of other local artists. I am a member of the Sage Brush art group as well as the new group called Surfaces: South Okanagan mixed media group. For more information and examples of my work go to www.janbednarczyk.com
