On Wednesday November 23 at approximately 250 pm, Police received a report from a complainant stating that a family member had taken off in a vehicle and was impaired.
The vehicle sped away on Hwy 97 at a high rate of speed. This resulted in two other police calls being generated by motorists that observed the vehicle driving erratically on Highway 97 near Kaleden.
A RCMP member from South Okanagan Traffic Services located the vehicle travelling north on Hwy 97 into Penticton. An attempt to stop the vehicle resulted in the vehicle taking off on police and swerving dangerously into the oncoming lanes. RCMP did not pursue the vehicle for safety reasons.
Continued patrols were made for the vehicle which was located a short time later on Elm Avenue.
The driver attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody by Penticton Traffic Services members. The 29 year old male driver from Osoyoos is facing multiple Criminal Code charges for flight from police and impaired driving.
