Once again, our local Kiwanis club has shown its incredible commitment to Oliver’s children and youth. This morning, Oliver Kiwanis Club secretary Rosemary Pritchard presented a cheque for $2300 from the club to Tuc-el-Nuit school. The money will be used to purchase a set of ukuleles for the school’s music program.
In grade 6 and 7, Tuc-el-Nuit students have the opportunity to pick an instrument to play in the school band. For the majority of kids, this is their first major introduction to playing an instrument and may be the only two years in their life that they actively create music. Tuc-el-Nuit’s band teacher, Lisa Ante, dreamed about expanding the school’s instrument programming to include grade 5 students. Her hope was to buy a class set of ukuleles: an accessible, easy to learn, hardy, and really fun instrument that suits younger kids. Unfortunately, the price tag for a class set of ukuleles seemed out of reach… until the Kiwanis Club stepped in. On behalf of Tuc-el-Nuit school students, teachers and parents, enormous thanks to the incredibly generous Oliver Kiwanis Club!
