In a moving ceremony, full of tradition and history, the St Martin of Tours relic was placed in it’s new home in a beautiful new altar in Christ the King Catholic Church in Oliver on Saturday morning.
Bishop John Corriveau officiated the ceremony, anointed the altar with Oil of Chrism, blessed the altar and lectern and then performed the first of many masses to be held on this ‘Lord’s Table.’ This is the fourth altar to be used at Christ the King over the past 82 years, but this one will likely last at least another 82 years.

The altar and lectern were a gift to the parish from Greg and Sue Steger and family, in honor of Greg’s parents and long time parishioners, Frank and Doreen Steger. Greg gave a short talk to describe the process of constructing the altar, which included describing how the clear fir wood was actually recycled wood from a grain elevator.
