Wednesday, November 16, 2016 will be noted as a historical day for the community of Okanagan Falls. MLA Linda Larson announced that the efforts of many have been recognized and rewarded with $4.7 million capital funding from BC Housing. This funding will go towards construction of a 35 unit affordable seniors housing rental project. The project will be managed by the South Skaha Housing Society (SSHS) and includes a lease agreement with Legion #227. The project is ideally situated on Legion vacant property at 5035 Veteran’s Way and 1209, 1237 and 1251 Willow Street. The proposed property is across from Centennial Park which is a stone’s throw to the Seniors Centre and backs onto picturesque Shuttleworth Creek.
MLA Larson stated, “This investment is essential in keeping our community strong by providing local seniors with affordable housing options,” she said. “Seniors have worked hard to create the prosperous province we call home and I’m glad that our government’s strong fiscal management can provide the funds needed for this project.”
RDOS Electoral Area “D” Director Tom Siddon described the long overdue project as very exciting news for the community with a high demographic of older citizens. This enthusiasm was shared by members of the society, who have spent years working on this project.
