The top two seeds entering the BC High School Girls AA Field Hockey Championship appear to be on a collision course to meet in the title game.
And the Southern Okanagan Secondary School squad has found out first-hand just how good both teams are.
The Hornets fell 5-0 to Crofton House, the top seed, in round robin play.
A 2-2 tie against Brentwood and 1-0 victory over G.W. Graham from Chilliwack, thanks to a goal by Hannah Byron, moved the Hornets into the playoff round.
Unfortunately, they were up against second-seeded Collingwood, and fell 5-0.
“A very gutsy effort from the Oliver girls on super-fast water-based artificial turf to stay in the game versus Collingwood,” said head coach Lesley Magnus from Surrey, site of the Provincials. “We have kids with relatively little sport experience making great, smart plays, diving to save goals, and keeping their feet moving even when they’re exhausted. (It was) A great day!”
When play begins Friday morning, SOSS will battle for fifth place – and could finish as low as 8th place.
We will keep you up to date on the Hornets play at Provincials.
