The Osoyoos Coyotes broke open a tight 2-1 hockey game with three-unanswered third period goals and went on to defeat the Summerland Steam 5-1 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday at Sun Bowl Arena.
Goals by Judd Repole and Carter Shannon through the first two periods had Osoyoos on top 2-1 by the second intermission.
Shannon, Colin Bell and Ryan Roseboom all scored third perod goals to put the game away to the delight of the 390 fans in attendance.
All five Osoyoos goals were scored with the man advantage. The Coyotes finished the game five for 12 on the power play, while Summerland was zero for three.
Osoyoos outshot Summerland 46-22. That stat was a strong indicator of how the game transpired, with Osoyoos controlling the puck in the offensive and defensive zones for most of the game.
The Coyotes improved to 9-2, good for second place in the Okanagan Division, two points back of the Steam with three games in hand.
Osoyoos visits Princeton Saturday.
