Oliver Parks and Recreation Weight Room expansion is underway and things are looking great. As wonderful as this is for our community, it also leaves a hole for our toddlers with the removal of the playground equipment.
Playground structures, fencing and landscaping is expensive. An estimated $50 000 is needed to fund this playground. Oliver Parks and Rec currently does not have the budget for a new toddler park as there have many other projects in the works. A dedicated group of women is organizing Oliver Community Park Project to raise the funds needed to build a new toddler park within the Community Park grounds. The proposed location is within the Community Park grounds along the paved pathway near the Spillway parking lot and washrooms. This location would allow for Oliver’s first fully accessible park for children with special needs as well as for parents/grandparents with mobility issues. The vision for this park is to create an inclusive environment for all children in our community to be able to enjoy.
Interior Savings Insurance has nominated Oliver Community Park Project for an Aviva Community Fund Grant. Up to $50000 could be awarded with this grant which is based primarily on an online voting system. Groups that have won these grants in the past have received between 10-12 thousand votes. It’s an ambitious task for a community the size of Oliver. Voting only takes a few minutes using your email address. There will also be a booth at the Oliver Fall Market and Children’s Swap to assist people with voting. Votes can be cast from October 11 until October 28 at
