Area D – Director Tom Siddon – Ok Falls, Kaleden, Apex and many parts in between. The RDOS board today resolved to ask Victoria for permission to divide this large regional area into two parts:
D1 – North and West of Skaha – Kaleden and Apex
D2 – South and East of Skaha – OK Falls/Vaseux and Eastside Road residential areas
Only one person with a word of dissent. Penticton City Councillor Helena Konanz wanted a more extensive review of all rural areas rather than one bandaid decision that will add another representative to the 18 person board of governance. The plan is to have this all in place by October 2018 at the time of the next municipal election.
West side of Vaseux Lake – Hike and Bike trail needed but in sensitive area. RDOS CAO Bill Newell reported to the board on discussions at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in Victoria last week stating that a delegation met with Forests and Lands Minister Steve Thomson. A commitment made for a feasibility study to be completed on how to advance the file. Newell says a number of obstacles are in the way of progress – control by the Canadian Wildlife Service (Federal) and the lack of two bridges on the old KVR right of way that would allow foot traffic and a bike trail.
Area C – Director Terry Schafer – Gallagher Lake Official Community Plan (revised) receives approval but Oliver ditch fix may hold up some progress. A review has been completed by staff and a citizens committee and it was recommended that sufficient time and input has been received to adopted the new OCP.
A number of traffic safety suggestions and plans involved but the Town of Oliver might need to dig up the highway for an underground ditch that could stall some of the plans. The board was told that water and sewer services at Gallagher Lake provided by the OIB – mostly on the west side of the highway.
