During the first week of September ODN had a poll asking if you exercise 3x a week. The last time I checked the votes, I noticed the yes votes were at 44 & the no votes were at 44. Half of people who voted said yes they do exercise 3 times a week & half of the other voters said no they don’t exercise 3x week.
Those who voted no could have also meant that they exercise more than 3 times a week. Most likely those who voted no to exercising 3x week were people who don’t exercise at all. Hard to say for sure.
There was a third choice of “can’t exercise”. I wonder why those 2 voters said they can’t exercise. If it’s because of paralysis or a recent injury or surgery & was told by the doctor to completely avoid exercising for a bit then I can understand. Some may think that if one body part doesn’t work properly then they can’t exercise. In the sense of it being strenuous or continual, that may be true. But what about activities or movement of some kind? If you are limited to your bed or chair most of the day there is probably some type of activity/movement that you can do that would be beneficial. It is worth looking into.
For those who said they don’t exercise 3x week, I wonder… why not? Are you too busy working all day? If that is the case, do you find yourself sitting in front of the tv or computer drinking your coffee before heading out the door? You could take a coffee with you to work & spend that time at home getting in some exercise. If you have more than 30 minutes, great! If not, you can get some quality exercise done in less than 30 minutes. If the only way you can get 30 minutes of exercise into your day is to break it up into 10 minutes 3x day, then you got your 30 minutes! Ten minutes before work, 10 minutes at lunch break, 10 minutes sometime after work. You can make it work if you want to. You can always get up a little earlier too.
If you don’t exercise 3x week & don’t work… why not? Sitting all day will make you sick if it hasn’t already. If you are sedentary, breaking it up every 30 minutes would be ideal. Get up & get a drink of water march around, roll around on the floor. Movement of any kind is better than no movement! It’s never too late to get started… you’ll be ahead of the guy still sitting on the couch!
If you are one who said you do exercise 3x week, that is great, keep up the good work! If you have been consistent for some time now, maybe it’s time to add another day. You are ready!
Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous & exhausting. It’s not all about going hard or going home as some might say. It’s about feeling better & moving better. It’s about improving or maintaining a level of physical fitness. You want to feel refreshed afterwards. You want to look forward to the next session.
If you need a little help… I’m only an email away. I usually respond the same day.
