Fact Sheet
Bylaw No. 2741, 2016
REGIONAL DISTRICT OF OKANAGAN-SIMILKAMEEN
• The Town of Osoyoos has petitioned the Regional District to assume control of the South Okanagan Transit System.
• Electoral Areas “A”, “C” and “D” have been contributing to the system through their individual Electoral Area Rural Projects budgets since 2008.
• The current system has three separate routes that provide service between Osoyoos and Kelowna. Current stops include: Osoyoos, Oliver, Okanagan Falls, Kaleden, Penticton, Summerland and Kelowna.
• Create a taxation structure to allow for cost sharing among each of the participating municipalities and electoral areas.
• Taking on the South Okanagan Transit system will allow the Regional District to work directly with BC Transit to increase service to the electoral areas contributing to the service. This may include coordinating with other transit services and additional bus stops.
• The cost of the service will be $0.0177/$1,000 of assessed value, or $5.14 for the average household valued at $292,000.
