Note to Publisher:
I took a trip to the “dump” to dispose of the old dishwasher – didn’t want it hanging around till April 17th for Large Item collection. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is no charge for this – if under half a ton and recyclable (metal). When I got home I read the RDOS literature we get with our RDOS garbage invoice to see if this fact is mentioned – I couldn’t find it, only mention of Large Items is the one per year collection. The point of this email is that from time to time you have featured discarded garbage dumped along the hike and bike path, in the bush etc.
I think Joe Blow Public doesn’t know it is free to dispose of such items at the dump – perhaps you could get the word out? – Carolyn Tipler

In response:
I spoke with staff at the Oliver Landfill and “Yes, it’s true”. It is not limited to appliances (eg. Can be yard waste) and does NOT include any appliances containing Freon
Freon items are not free. Anything that is recyclable and less than ½ ton is free.
for further information on items that may fall into this category, please contact the staff at the Oliver landfill. – Roza Aylwin
