A bylaw will be introduced today at the Penticton Regional District board table to:
Rescind a former bylaw (2014) that never got off the ground (Done) and
Give first reading of a new bylaw (2016) to raise no more than $20 thousand a year to fund the water service at the Secrest area campsite that houses pickers and seasonal agriculture workers. (Done)
The present water service is connected to a Town of Oliver water utility pipe at the base of Secrest Hill. It has been operated jointly by the Town and RDOS for two years on a mutual understanding.
It’s in the wording – the government of BC will ONLY approve a campground service and not a new water service to make it legal.
The RDOS will seek approval through the AA process (Alternative Approval) – where if there is dissent – 10 percent of the population has to indicate that displeasure. It then would go to a referendum.
