OSOYOOS COUNCIL BRIEFS
Gyro Park to have a ‘grand opening’
Osoyoos will give itself a pat on the back next month with a community celebration of recently completed upgrades to Gyro Park.
Plans call for a short dedication program, music in the park and a comm8nity picnic with members of council serving up food and beverages.
Guests to be invited include the provincial minister in charge of the Resort Municipalities Initiative, which paid for the largest share of the costs, MLA Linda Larson, former council members and other luminaries.
It was decided earlier that such a celebration would be held in September so that it can be primarily a local event rather than in the height of the tourist season.
The celebration goes September 14 from 5:30 to 7:30.
Roberts Point getting closer to town water
The lakefront community of Roberts Point is a step closer to getting hooked up to the Town of Osoyoos water system after council approved a study into how much it might cost.
The planned twinning of the water service into the rural area outside the town’s boundaries is likely to have made the cost lower than an earlier estimate of $274,000.
Earlier, residents opted to pay to be part of the town’s sewer system, but not to hook into the domestic water supply.
Given the possibly lower price and the fact that several wells in the neighborhood have been failing lately, residents may wish to change their minds on water.
Roberts Point residents will pay for the cost estimate to be created by True Consulting.
