Light
Light is the opposite of heavy. It is also the opposite of dark. To light is to land like a bird onto a branch. To light a candle is to bring a source of fire to its wick. To light a fire is to start a fire. That can also be a fire inside of me where I can become on fire about an idea or goal or task. To experience light humor is to experience gentle or subtle humor. To explain or add information is to put light on the subject
If I say, ‘the room was light’, that does not mean the room does not weight much, or that it is not serious, or even that the amount of light in the room is a lot. What I mean when I say ‘the room is light’, I mean it feels easy and welcoming and as if the season is Spring, gentle and maybe even kind of spiritual. Maybe that is where the word enlightenment comes from? Or not…
Come on baby light my fire (but don’t use matches). That is supposed to be an invitation to get me sexually hot. Well, what would you say to that one? To light one’s fire is to stimulate them. One can light a fire under a project team working to accomplish a task. It means to motivate, sometimes by any means available, to get the job done, and pronto please (sometimes, or else is a part of it)
If I light a candle for you, I send good wishes for your safety and to prepare and pray for your return. It is like those candles in some churches that you put a tooney in the box to allow you to light one of the votive candles. The idea is to send out an intention, a good wish, something supportive for some person or cause. I could light one of those after an earthquake or other disaster
I can lighten your load by offering to carry some of your groceries. I can also do that by having a supportive conversation to help you deal with a situation. One more way would be to lighten up on my judgment of you, stop blaming and attacking you. That would feel like lightening up if you did it for me. Who do I need to lighten up on? Who do you?
