On August 5, 2016 at 4:58 p.m. the Osoyoos RCMP received a report of a possible collision between two rented Jet Skis on Osoyoos Lake.
Officers attended the lake and spoke with a Jet Ski Rental Company who advised that a boater had returned two jet skis to him earlier advising that the operators of them were believed to have been involved in a collision and were taken to shore by another boat operator.
Officers learned from witnesses that several boat operators heard someone on the lake yelling for help and observed 2 jet skis in the water with no one on them from the area where the calls were coming from.
The boat operators attended the area and located a man and woman in the water. The man, a 24 year old New Westminster resident, was conscious and a 24 year old Port Coquitlam woman was unconscious.
Rescuers immediately began life saving first aid efforts on the woman on one of the boats while the driver attended to shore. Upon arriving on shore others jointed in to assist in the first aid efforts. The injured woman was transported to be air lifted to hospital but unfortunately she had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased prior to air transport.
The Osoyoos RCMP would like to thank all the individuals who assisted in the rescue and first aid efforts related to this incident. Police are investigating to see if any criminality exists. No further information will be provided at this time.
