Search and rescue crews rushed to save a critically injured 15-year-old girl Saturday afternoon.
The BC Ambulance Service contacted PENSAR after receiving a report of a severely injured teenager on an ATV in the Apex Mountain area.
“After receiving the call at 4:46 p.m., PENSAR manger Richard Terry mobilized PENSAR’s Air Evacuation Team along with a ground support unit to the Apex Mountain area,” explains Randy Brown with PENSAR.
“Due to the seriousness of the reported injury paramedics also responded with an air ambulance to the scene.”
The 15-year-old girl from Penticton was with a group of ATV riders when the incident occurred.
A member of the group then rode out to cell phone range and made the call to 911. They then assisted first responders in directing them to the injured girl.
“Once a location had been established, the PENSAR air team flew to the site and evacuated the female subject to a nearby landing area where she was transferred to the EHS Air Ambulance Critical Care Team,” says Brown. “The subject was then flown to Kelowna General Hospital.”
No other details regarding the current condition of the teenager are being released at this time.
