A dispute over access. Penticton Indian Band Chief Jonathan Kruger says he has been told this gate will be left open for access to the east river bank for fishing. Kruger says the province has assured him that Monday is the day when access will be guaranteed.
The family that owns land adjacent to the gate -claim the property is theirs- and there are liability and nuisance issues from the past that need to be clarified at a meeting of all stakeholders. For now native and non-native fishers are using the west bank of the river for fishing. The river is experiencing an early run of sockeye.
